On our Sunday group trash n talk n litter pick, it was a magnificent group of 7 of us, on the Campus of UC Berkeley, Sproul Plaza looks so nice on a sunny Sunday when there are no flyers, food containers, cups etc. . . It was very heartening to look back on the square after it was cleaned up by the Magnificent 7....such a nice environment makes one think of what is possible, and what can be done with just a little effort, AND a lotta fun !
So here's the podcast with music, accents, zippers, dancing students, trick picks, angry birds, a mysterious garage, news highlights from berkeley's own la cascada, a lotta laughs and, oh yea, tons of trash talk. check it out...japanese translation (you'll know what we mean if you've heard the 'cast) to be posted soon, and thanks again to dan-o for the free tunes...
oh, and there's no forgetting this!!!! hats off to yamatozer!!
thank you, keep it up talkin trash talkin anything, just keep talkin' walkin pickin...

An interesting mountain of SOMETHING

An interesting mountain of SOMETHING on the streets of japantown san francisco
This morning around 8 15 am, I saw a newspaper laying on the store front near Tanpopo. Upon approach, i couldn't help but noticed a small mountain of substantial substance, very similar to human fecal matter laying on top of the newspaper. There were other items of trash nearby, some food wrappers, napkins, and such....My first thought was to get the hell out of there! I did.
But.
As i stood at the end of Osaka Way near Benkyodo on the corner, under the Torii, I looked back, and saw how clean the area was, except for that ONE area near Tanpopo.
I couldn't imagine people visiting japantown for this first time, and whilst enjoying the experience, happen upon something unsavory, unsettling, and appetite-depleting, which would be the memory they would carry with them home to Lincoln, Nebraska or Helsinki, and tell this to all their facebook friends about what a shitty place Japantown, San Francisco is.
I couldn't bear it. So, guess what I did.....any ideas?

China Basin trash pick-up Jan. 7
Here at talkin' trash headquarters, we hope everyone's had a super start to the new year. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts last year, there has been a fair amount of trash on the streets in the first 4 days of 2012. And the steam-cleaning Department of Public Works in San Francisco is probably not going to get it all cleaned up in preparation for this year's Chinese New Year parade. So it looks like we have work to do again this year.
This Saturday, January 7, from 10-12, we were planning to join the Sea Scavenger Conservancy for their once-a-month industrial shoreline cleanup, where they get a bunch of volunteers together just south of AT&T park in San Francisco to "help stop shoreline plastic from becoming ocean plastic".
But, guess what? Found out that's happening January 14th--and all of their pick-ups will be on the SECOND Saturday of each month. We'll try again next week.
SO, in the meantime, we'll plan to work the streets around the Caltrain station, AT&T park, and China Basin, and hopefully pick up some of the plastic that might make its way into the bay anyway. Come join us everyone!
What: Walkin' talkin' neighborhood trash pick-up & podcast

When: 10 am - 12 noon, Saturday Dec. 7
Where: In front of the Caltrain Station, 4th St. btwn King & Townsend
